Why most business websites in Nigeria do not bring in customers
A website that only looks good is an expense. A website that answers questions, builds trust and makes the next step obvious is a salesperson that never sleeps. Here is the difference.

Many businesses have a website the way they have a signboard. It exists, it has the logo and the phone number, and nobody has looked at it closely since the day it went live. Then the owner wonders why all the business still comes through referrals and WhatsApp.
A website should be your hardest-working employee. It is open every hour, speaks to every visitor at once, and never forgets a detail. When it is built well, it answers questions, builds trust and moves people to act. When it is not, it quietly sends them to a competitor.
The real problem: a brochure, not a tool
Most underperforming websites were built to look presentable, not to do a job. You can usually spot them in seconds:
- The homepage talks about the company, not about the customer's problem
- It is slow to load on a phone using mobile data
- Services are vague, with no clear explanation of what you actually get
- There is no obvious next step, or there are ten competing ones
- Contact details are hard to find, or the contact form goes to an inbox nobody checks
- The content has not been updated in years, so it feels abandoned
Each of these costs you customers who were already interested enough to visit.
Start with the visitor's questions
Every visitor arrives with a handful of questions. Can you solve my problem? Are you any good? Can I trust you? What does it cost, or at least how do I find out? What do I do next? A good website answers them in that order.
- Lead with the outcome you deliver, in plain language
- Explain each service clearly: who it is for, what is included and how you work
- Show proof that is real and clickable: live work, real projects, honest descriptions
- Make the next step obvious: request a quote, book a call or chat on WhatsApp
Speed is part of the message
Many visitors will be on mid-range phones and mobile data. If your site takes too long to load, they leave before they see anything. Heavy images, bloated templates and unnecessary plugins are the usual culprits. A fast site feels professional before the visitor reads a word.
Trust is built in the details
- Your registered company name and number, address and working phone number
- Clear policies: terms, privacy and how you handle data
- Consistent branding across the website and social media
- Up-to-date content, including a blog that answers real customer questions
- No invented reviews, client logos or statistics. Visitors can tell, and it destroys trust.
Make it easy to act
The best websites remove effort. A short quote form that asks the right questions. A booking calendar that shows times in the visitor's time zone. A WhatsApp button for people who prefer to chat. A clear confirmation so people know their request arrived.
Behind the scenes, every enquiry should be captured in one place, with a status, so nothing slips through. That is where a website stops being decoration and starts being a sales system.
A website is never finished
Search engines and customers both reward websites that stay alive: new content, updated services, fresh work and quick fixes when something breaks. Plan for ongoing care from the start, and make sure you can update the content yourself without calling a developer for every change.
Measure what matters
You cannot improve what you do not measure. Set up simple analytics from day one so you can see how many people visit, where they come from, which pages they read and how many of them get in touch. Review it monthly. If people visit a service page but never enquire, the page needs work. If most visitors come from one channel, invest more there. Small, regular improvements based on real behaviour beat an expensive redesign every few years.
What our web team actually builds
Teamdioski, the Seven Hundred Percent software team, builds websites, web apps and mobile apps that are designed to do a job. We start by understanding your customers and what a successful website means for your business, then design and build a fast, mobile-first site with clear services, real proof and an obvious next step.
We can include the systems that turn visitors into customers: smart quote forms, booking with time zone support, WhatsApp integration and a dashboard where your team can edit content and track every enquiry. After launch we deploy, train your team and stay available, with maintenance and support retainers for ongoing care.
Because we are part of a group, Seven Hundred Percent Digital Marketing can bring visitors to the site through content, SEO and campaigns, and Percent Studio can produce animated explainers that make your offer easy to understand.
If your website is a signboard and you want a salesperson, request a quote. Tell us what you sell and who you want to reach, and we will show you what your website should be doing.
